Build Trust in a Team.
Truth is the bedrock of building a high-performing team. Lack of trust can not only fail the team but also hamper the growth of the organization in the long run. Prachi Verma Dadhwaltalks to experts to find out how team leaders can go about building trust among the members.
1) Open Communication
Trust can be instilled among team members only when there is open communication. “Open communication and ensures that everybody is on the same page,” says Swapnil Kamat founder, work better training.
2) Make it Personal
Try to build an informal equation parallel to the professional one. “I make it a point to invite my team and their families home at least once a quarter. I go for holidays with my team on personal time where the agenda is to have fun and hardly any work is discussed” say Debashis Patnaik, senior director-HR, Dell EMC.
3) Set an Example
A lender should always take the first step in building trust. “When you show trust in others, they are bound to reciprocate by trusting you. It is also important to keep in mind that when you are part of a team, every other member of the team keeps an eye out for you,” says Kamat.
4) Transparency Helps
Be as transparent as possible in both actions and thoughts when working in a team. This is one of the most important blocks to building trust. “The more transparent you are in your actions, the more transparent your team will be with their action, “says Kamat.
5) Common Values
The team should uphold common values such as professionalism, transparency, integrity, respect, etc. “These values from the basis of interaction and decisions, and build common ground and clarity on what is expected,” says Patnaik.
